About Ebony

Before creating Never Alone Birth Services, I spent a few years in the military, where I grew a special bond with many of my battle buddies. One was a young mother and soldier, who gave birth to her first daughter without a family member in sight. The military moves our service members all over the country and world, and she wasn’t in the financial position to hire help. I met this young mother and after learning her story it never left my heart or mind. After serving in the military, I encountered many other women on campus who suffered from postpartum depression. They would share their stories with me and I knew I wanted to make a change. They would always express how much easier it would have been to have had an extra hand.

Even though I help women at my job, birth work is my passion. I started this business with the hopes of serving more than the women who give birth at my hospital. I’ve noticed that there are women who are sometimes ignored or not taken seriously when it comes to their health during and after pregnancy which is why I want to help my community, fellow veterans, and those who aren't financially stable with birth services.

They would share their stories with me and I knew I wanted to make a change. They would always express how much easier it would have been to have had an extra hand.

Mission

As a doula, I believe in the importance of women being heard and feeling supported through all stages of birth. A personal mission of mine is to lower the rates of postpartum depression one family at a time. Giving birth is challenging and so is caring for an infant. I want to bring awareness and allow new mommies and birthing parents to know that they shouldn’t feel any shame in asking for help because they are not alone.

Like many people even today, I had no idea what a doula was. Once I found out, I immediately signed up for training. Becoming a doula was perfect and it gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into my love for birth work.

Background

I started working at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women and Children in 2017. I was a certified nurse assistant and I was very passionate about my job because I got to help so many mothers and birthing parents. The following year I took a doula training in Honolulu with DONA and received my certificate as a doula. Fall 2020, I graduated with my Bachelor's in Sociology from the University of Hawaii. Go Bows!!! Since then I have been learning more about the birth world and following my passion as a birth worker.

My hobbies include dancing, listening to music, reading, roller skating with my family, cooking, hanging with my friends at the beach. I’m a  free spirit who is passionate about life and loves being in nature while exploring the world.
